Aptar Active Material Science was recently featured on the Qualistery & GMP podcast, where Badre Hammond, VP, Global Commercial Operations and GM, APAC shared how active packaging is evolving from a supporting role to a strategic lever in drug development.

Packaging is often considered late in the process after formulation challenges have already been addressed. However, integrating active packaging into design thinking at the early stages of drug development can help not only manage stability challenges but prevent them, reducing the need for reformulation and saving valuable time.

This approach represents a broader mindset shift: Moving from reactive problem-solving to proactive design thinking. By considering material science at the same time as formulation, teams can better anticipate challenges and build solutions in from the start, rather than retrofitting them later.

It also highlights the value of closer collaboration across functions. Bringing formulation, packaging, and Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) teams together earlier in development can help reduce iterations, streamline decision-making, and accelerate timelines while improving overall product robustness.

This shift toward early integration reinforces how Aptar Active Material Science can help customers develop more effective and reliable therapies faster.
